Breeding Information |
Breeding Fees The fee to breed your mare to *Smaragaid Cliff, via fresh cooled, is $950. This includes the non-refundable booking fee, the stud fee, the cost for first collection and comes with a live foal guarantee. All container deposits, shipping fees and any additional collection fees are the responsibility of the mare owner. A signed contract, along with the booking fee, must be returned to the stallion owner to initiate a breeding agreement. The balance of the stud fee and container deposit are due before collection. Ask about discounts for multiple mares and USEF-member performance homes. Cliff's proven frozen semen is always available and comes with a live foal guarantee when equine (not bovine) insemination protocol is followed. A booking fee is not required and Cliff's stud fee is not due until the foal is born. The beauty of using frozen semen is that it can be ordered at your convenience with a longer delivery date -- to save shipping fees -- and ready when your mare is ready. Gone is the anxiety of ordering a collection and praying that it doesn't arrive too late or too early, according to your mare's needs. Read more here. Breeding Season Cliff is available to ship fresh cooled semen April through June on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays only. At least 48 hours notice is required to schedule a collection. There will be some blackout dates due to his competitive schedule. Cliff's proven frozen semen is always available. |
Plan Ahead Mares that have not produced a live foal in the past two years and mares that have failed to conceive in a full breeding season must have an endometrial culture, a cytology smear and a biopsy. Older mares that have not been bred in many years need these tests, as well. The written results from these tests must be provided prior to the mare owner ordering semen. Better to know if your mare is reproductively clean and sound before you breed instead of spending all the time, emotion and money of breeding with no foal in the end. And don't keep putting off breeding your beloved mare. It is heartbreaking when tests show that it is too late to breed her, barring great expense. USEF Lifetime Recording Do yourself and your foals' future owners a favor. Purchase a USEF lifetime recording number, which every equine must have to earn year-end national awards in most sports. We will reimburse the cost of recording Cliff's foals, if the lifetime number is purchased BEFORE December 31 of the year of the foal's birth. Just send us the receipt for immediate reimbursement. To find the form, visit www.usef.org and look under 'Forms and Publications' then 'Horse Services.'
