In Memory of Herbert Imping
1923-2009
In October 2004, the Connemara Pony breeders in Colorado were
blessed by a visit from Herbert Imping, his wife, Helga, and their
traveling/fishing companions Berndt and Gerlinde Schneider. Here
are some photos chronicling this wonderful visit. I wish I had audio
of all the laughter and singing we enjoyed.

Herbert and Dennis Schmidt discuss Herbert's favorite
classic Connemara mare on his visit: Thunderbolt's
granddaughter Wildflower's Toshi (*Lasrachai x Galway
Girl) owned by Dennali Acres. When I told Herbert during
one of his Christmas telephone calls to me that I had
purchased Toshi's filly, Dennali Rhiannon, as a future wife
for my stallion *Smaragaid Cliff, he was thrilled! He said
that I couldn't have made a better choice. Wonderful
words of praise that I cherish.

Herbert Imping's resume reads like a
Connemara Who's Who in Germany.

Pat Lyne wrote about Imping in her book "Out
of the Mist," noting his contributions to the
Connemara Pony in Germany. Imping is a
founding member of Connemarapony
Vereinigung e.V., serving as its president
since 1998. Prior to 1996, he was a
long-time member of the Connemara-IG, also
serving several years as its president.

The real beginning of Imping's Bigge stud
was in the mid 1970s when he bought Ganty
Mint (Carna Bobby x Silver Mint) from
Irishman Joe Macnamara. Ganty Mint and
her daughter, Calla Mint by Calla Boy, were
its foundation.

Over the years, Imping stood the stallions
Golden Rock (Golden Dan x Moy Orphan),
Paddy of Caherlistrane (Carna Dun x Lough
Hackett), Brimstone van Graaf Janshof
(Sticky x Snowy Winter) and Flashing
Brendan (Carna Gold x Comara April's
Challenge). These stallions were used by
outside mares in addition to Imping's own
mares, which produced 46 foals.
Imping's stud also produced three homebred
stallions: Little Prince (Little Lord x Mirna) in
1981, Power Boy (Paddy of Caherlistrane x
Ganty Mint) in 1986 and Bigge Boy (Brimstone x
Calla Mint) in 1993. Their offspring have
achieved many successes, including the
Federal Premium Award, the highest honor
given to three-year-old mares at inspection.
Imping's homebred mares have received the
prestigious designation, as well.

stock.
